News Archive9th FebruaryVale Jimmy IrwinThe club is saddened to announce the sudden passing of Jimmy Irwin, a loyal supporter and helper of the Heathmont Football Club. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Daniel, Michael & Theresa, and all of his friends & family. 30th NovemberSenior Coach AppointedAfter a long and arduous process the Heathmont Football club is pleased to announce the appointment of Gareth Woodcock as their senior coach for 2009. Gareth has been involved with Heathmont for nearly 10 years in various roles from playing, positions on the committee, to the coach of our Under 18’s. He has been at the helm of the colts for the past two season’s, taking them to finals in both years. Gareth was also an integral part of our successful senior coaching panel this season. His enthusiasm and work ethic is a testament to those around him and an important quality which the club feels is necessary for such a position and for the continued development of our playing group and our efforts in Division 3. Gareth is looking forward to the challenge of his new role and was introduced as senior coach to the players at pre-season training last Wednesday. The club congratulates Gareth on his appointment and looks forward to building on the success of the past couple of seasons. New Life MemberChris Walters was granted life membership of the Heathmont Football Club at our AGM earlier in the month. Chris began his football at the Heatherdale Junior Football club and was a member of Heathmont’s U18’s 1998 premiership side. He was also a premiership player for Heathmont in our 2004 and 2008 wins. Additionally, he has taken on junior coaching responsibilities twice in these ten years, with some of his first charges playing along side him in this season’s grand final. He was asked again in 2007 to take on a junior coaching role and has coached the U9’s and U10’s for the last two seasons. He was part of the leadership group when the club was at the cross roads at the end of 2006 and played an integral part along with a few others in persuading Peter Forsyth to coach. Congratulations Chris on a well deserved life membership award. The criteria for Life member nomination is 10 years of service in a committee and/or playing role. For players: This takes into consideration what the individual has done to contribute in some way to the running of the club. Be that coaching junior sides, assistant coaching again Junior, U18’s or senior sides. Serving on the committee in all facets, or helping out around the club on a consistent basis (raffles, fundraising, behind the bar). For non-players: In a non-playing case, as previously mentioned 10 years on the committee, doing a particular job over 10 years (ie: Team Manager, bar staff, merchandise), helping put on what is required to be done on game day, running functions etc. New Photo Gallery - Chandler Medal NightThere is a new gallery with six photos from Chandler Medal Night. Stuart will manage the core role of secretary, whilst Athol has agreed to become our EFL Liaison Officer, responsible for most of the dealings with the EFL. Despite holding a lead of 35 points at the 17 minute mark of the 3rd quarter, they had to withstand another fight back by Chirnside Park who got within a point during the last quarter. Unlike the semi final two weeks prior, this time the Jets held on to win by just 3 points. What a game!
3rd SeptemberSix Jets Named in SEN's Division 4 Team of the YearCongratulations to Will Villani, David Sindrey, Levi Horton, Peter Forsyth, Leigh Odermatt and Jon Knudsen for being named in SEN's Division 4 Team of the Year. Levi was named captain too. For those unfamiliar with the honour, here is the criteria: At the end of the home and away season, each coach was asked to name a 'Team of the Year' - in positions - for the division they coach in. They also nominated a captain of the team, and coach, whose efforts during the home and away season stood out as above average. Coaches were limited to selecting a maximum of four players from their own club however, there were no restrictions on the number of players from any one club in the final teams announced. It is therefore quite a balanced viewpoint on how coaches rate their playing opponents. See below for the full listing:
3rd December 2006Jonathon Taylor Receives EFL Recognition of Service Award
Jonathon is pictured above with Joanne Hart-Parker, and his Recognition of Service Award. At the EFL's AGM held on Thursday night, Jonathon Taylor received a Recognition of Service Award for his years of dedication to the Heathmont Football Club. For those of you unfamiliar with the award, here is some of the criteria which the EFL mentions: The EFL wishes to recognise off field club personnel for their continued service to clubs. Clubs, trainers association, umpires association and the league executive are able to nominate people for an EFL Recognition of Service Award. Jonathon is truly deserving of this award. Below is an extract from our nomination submitted to the league earlier in the year, highlighting all that has been done by him in his long time at our club: The Heathmont Jets Football Club would like to formally nominate Jonathon “Joffa” Taylor for an EFL Recognition of Service Award. Jonathon has been involved in the club for 29 years. Aside from his playing days where he played an amazing 249 games, he has held the following positions over the past 17 years: President He continues to serve on the committee to this day. He is usually the first person at the club to open things up, and the last to leave. His generosity of time and effort along with many financial contributions have been greatly appreciated by many at the club, but perhaps overlooked by some. One thing is for sure; the club would be in a much poorer state if not for the tireless efforts of Joffa. To Joffa, thanks for your continued contributions to the club, and congratulations on the award. |
