Above: Leigh Odermatt, Anthony Hickey and Steve Buckle were included in the SEN Team of the Year. Photo - Jo Hart-Parker The EFL's Chandler Medal was held last Friday night and several Jets were awarded during the proceedings. In the senior best and fairest, Leigh Odermatt finished third and Kevin Clark equal sixth. Darryn Paul finished equal eighth in the reserves best and fairest, pretty good given the number of senior games he played later in the season. Brad Purkis finished third in the colts best and fairest, with Lachlan Goodey on equal eighth. Click here to see the full results from all divisions on the EFL website. The SEN Team of the Year is actually voted on by all senior coaches in the division. Each coach can only name four players from their own team, the rest must be made up from opposition teams. Four Jets made the team; Anthony Hickey (centre), Leigh Odermatt (centre half forward and captain!), Darren Sheen (full forward) and Steve Buckle (coach). Click here for a full list of all SEN Team of the Year teams on the EFL website. Congratulations to all. ABOVE: The Jets seniors celebrate a fantastic win in yesterday's grand final. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets and the Hawks played an absolutely awesome game of football in yesterday's grand final. Scores were tied at 12.9 81 each at the end of regular play. The Jets then hung on to win by seven points in extra time. Darren Sheen booted seven goals for the game and was awarded the Frank Bibby medal for best on ground. I'll have a match report and photo gallery up as soon as possible. Congratulations to the team on a terrific victory. 8th SeptemberJets Announce Grand Final SquadThe Jets have announced a 26 man senior squad for this Sunday's grand final. This list will be reduced to the 22 man team on Saturday morning once final fitness assessments have been made. Those named in the extended squad are: Mick Aitken, Peter Ferrier, Dave Want, Ali Knudsen, Matt Baker, Leigh Odermatt, Steve Shore, Darcy Grasby, Luke Broadbent, Sam Anderson, Dylan Sverns, Levi Horton, Peter Forsyth, Kieran O'Driscoll, Dave Sindrey, Will Villani, Travis Ling, Kevin Clark, Robby Savory, Darren Sheen, Jaime Villani, Luke McDermott, Anthony Hickey, Jono Knudsen, Darryn Paul and James Quirk. Good luck to all who represent the club on Sunday. Go Jets! 7th SeptemberJets Smash Eagles to Claim Grand Final Berth
ABOVE: Darcy Grasby kicked three goals in his senior debut for the Jets in the preliminary final win over the Eagles. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets seniors have turned a three point half time deficit into a 61 point thrashing of the Eagles in last Saturday's preliminary final. They now have won the right to play the Hawks in the grand final and they get to go up to third division for season 2012. There is normally one team promoted and one relegated, but due to the introduction of a senior side from Park Orchards into fourth division next season, two go up this year. It was a total team effort with Darren Sheen leading the goal kicking with nine, Leigh Odermatt and senior debutante Darcy Grasby booted three each. Way to go boys! Unfortunately, the reserves preliminary final was very much a disappointment, with the Jets losing by 52 points. Coaches Cameron Browne and Geoff Allen, along with the reserves players, have done a wonderful job of providing the depth of talent to support the seniors throughout the season. Thanks very much for your efforts. Post Game Interview With Steve Buckle OnlineThe EFL's Peter Baird interviewed senior coach Steve Buckle after the preliminary final. Click here to listen to it via the EFL website now. This Week - Grand FinalThe Jets seniors play Glen Waverley Hawks on Sunday at Tormore Reserve in Boronia from 2:30 pm in the fourth division grand final. Adult tickets are $15 whilst concession tickets are $9. Please get along to show your support. Site UpdatesI have posted my match report for the seniors game, along with scores from the reserves game here. I've also uploaded a new batch of photos I took from the seniors game. I have two sets of photos from recent reserves games to post as soon as time permits. 1st SeptemberSeniors Ins and Outs for Preliminary FinalThe Jets have made just one change for this weeks big game against the Eagles, with Dylan Sverns returning to replace captain Steve Shore who is out injured. Make sure you get along to Tormore Reserve, Tormore Rd, Boronia to cheer on the Jets on Sunday. See you at the footy - GO JETS! Jets Hold Out Saints - Preliminary Final Awaits
ABOVE: Darryn Paul breaks through to drive the ball forward for the Jets in their win over South Belgrave. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets seniors rebounded beautifully from their loss to the Eagles last week to defeat the Saints at Jubilee Park. The 27 point win came at a cost, with injuries taking their toll. That aside, the opportunity to redeem themselves against the Eagles in the preliminary final is something to look forward to. Sheen booted ten goals and Aitken had four as the leading goal kickers for the Jets. The reserves had a real battle on their hands in their match against Glen Waverley Hawks. After trailing for most of the game, the boys rallied in the last quarter to turn a three point deficit into a 14 point win. Dean Thomas led the goal kicking with four majors. Well done lads. They will face the Basin in their preliminary final. Finals Action This WeekendThe reserves and seniors are both playing at Tormore Reserve, Boronia on Sunday. Make sure you get along to support the boys. Site UpdatesI have posted my match report for the seniors game, along with scores from the reserves game here. I've also uploaded a new batch of photos I took from the seniors game, and the reserves elimination final photos from last week as well.

ABOVE: Kevin Clark on the run towards another goal opportunity during Saturday's qualifying final against the Eagles. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets seniors played Ferntree Gully in a qualifying final on Saturday at Tormore Reserve. The game was a very defensive one with low scores the result. Despite leading narrowly at half time, the Jets fell short by 16 points. The tables were turned on the Eagles when the Jets reserves played them on Sunday at Jubilee Park in the elimination final. That game saw the Jets destroy the Eagles by 76 points. Mick Aitken booted five goals and will surely have to be considered for senior duty next Saturday. Jimmy Darvidis Night Photos Posted

Make sure you get along to Tormore Reserve on Saturday for the seniors and then Jubilee Park on Sunday for the reserves. See you at the footy! Jets Bite Back to Beat the Bears!
ABOVE TOP: Travis Ling hand passes to Will Villani. ABOVE: Jaime Villani is chaired off the ground following his 100th game for the Jets. Photos - Chris Mirtschin The Jets seniors won a crucial match against the Basin last Saturday by just five points, to clinch third spot on the ladder and the all important double chance as they head into the finals. The reserves won their game too, by 24 points. Unfortunately for them, they dropped to fourth on the ladder behind Glen Waverley on percentage. In fact, the top four sides on the reserves ladder all finished with the same points, only percentage separates them. This means that the Jets reserves must defeat Ferntree Gully on Saturday to stay in the finals race, there is no double chance. The colts had a narrow eight point loss and unfortunately their season has now come to an end. The club thanks coach Travis Green and all the players for their efforts and improvement this year. We look forward to seeing what will happen next season with an under 19's competition replacing the under 18's. There was a huge crowd on hand on Saturday to support the Jets. We'd like to thank the Heathmont Bowls Club, Heathmont Cricket Club, Heathmont Anglers Club, Heatherdale Cricket Club and of course the Jets juniors for all their support on the day. Thanks also to the Basin for being part of such a great day of close footy. Heathmont Best and Fairest Winners AnnouncedThe vote count for the best and fairest was held on Sunday night. Congratulations to the winners. ABOVE - Jets Under 15's celebrate on the victory dais with the premiership cup. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets Under 15 B side totally demolished Montrose on Sunday, winning by 83 points. Final scores were Heathmont 19.8 122 to Montrose 5.9 39. Congratulations to coach Paul Hay and all the boys on such a fantastic win. I took a lot of photos of this match and hope to have them published in a gallery by the weekend. Stay tuned. Finals Action This WeekendThe seniors are playing Ferntree Gully in a qualifying final at Tormore Reserve, Boronia from 2.10pm on Saturday. The reserves are also playing against Ferntree Gully, although this is an elimination final at Jubilee Park, Ringwood from 11:55am on Sunday. Reminder - Caption Contest!Don't forget to enter the first ever contest in the history of this website. Click here for details. Entries close on Wednesday 24th August. Site UpdatesI have posted my match report for the seniors game, along with scores from reserves and colts games here. I've also updated the ladders and posted a new batch of photos I took from the seniors game. 11th AugustSeniors Ins and Outs for Round 18The Jets have listed two changes for the big game against the Basin this week. In comes Peter Forsyth and Dave Want, replacing Levi Horton (injured) and Mick Fraser (omitted). This Saturday should be awesome with three very important games for the Jets against the Bears. Good luck to seniors, reserves and colts. See you at the footy! 9th AugustJets Maul Lions
ABOVE - Dave Sindrey celebrates a great goal in the game against the Lions. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets traveled to Fairpark Reserve on Saturday and came away with three great wins over the Eastern Lions. The colts got the day off to a great start with a 44 point win. Lachie Goodey was the main goal scorer with seven majors. This win sees the colts move into the top five at last. A win this week will ensure they make the finals. A loss would mean they depend on Kilsyth and Surrey Park also losing to stay in finals contention. The reserves had an even spread of goal kickers in their 54 point win. That victory has helped them hold their fourth spot on the ladder, some 11% behind South Belgrave in third. With Kilsyth, Heathmont and South Belgrave all on 48 points, and Ferntree Gully on 44 points, the Jets reserves have a lot to play for on Saturday. A strong win could see them potentially snatch second place and a double chance, a bad loss and a win by Ferntree Gully could see them tumble out of the top five and a finals berth. The seniors were led by Anthony Hickey who booted four goals in a best on ground performance in their 63 point win. Robby Savory, Jaime Villani and Will Villani also played very well. The Jets seniors have sewn up at least fourth place on the ladder, and a win over the Basin on Saturday would see them move to third. There should be no greater incentive needed. In summary, it promises to be an awesome final home game for the Jets this Saturday so make sure you get along to support the boys. Jimmy Darvidis - Live at the Hangar this Saturday NightJimmy will be rocking the Hangar this Saturday night. Doors open around 7:30 pm. Entry costs $10 per person and finger food will be served. We look forward to seeing you there. Under 15's in Grand Final this SundayThe Jets under 15's have made it to the Grand Final. They will be playing Montrose at Scoresby Recreation Reserve from 2:30pm. Let's get behind the future of this club and get as many supporters along as possible to cheer them on. ABOVE - Luke Broadbent searches for a clearance option against Canterbury. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The photo gallery from the seniors game is now posted here, as is the match report here. Apologies for the delay this week, I've had a couple of personal things to deal with that needed priority. I'll be back shortly with the ins and outs from team selection at the clubrooms. 2nd AugustJets Tame CobrasThe Jets traveled to Canterbury to take on the Cobras on Saturday and came away with two very solid wins. The seniors kicked away early and were never overtaken in their 59 point win. Darren Sheen, and Leigh Odermatt led the goal kicking for the Jets. The Reserves were sensational in their match, dishing up a 110 point hiding to the home side. Rob Paul and Dean Thomas were the major goal kickers in that game. These wins were important in keeping the Jets in fourth position on the ladder for both seniors and reserves. With just two more rounds until finals, every win counts in what is a very even competition. NOTE: I'll have my match report and photos for the seniors game up in the next day or so. 28th JulySeniors Ins and Outs for Round 16Just back from the clubrooms with news that there is no change in players this week for the seniors. Given the solid team effort last week, that's entirely understandable. Sam Barling and Peter Ferrier have been named as emergencies. Good news - James Gould will return from an injury that's kept him sidelined for many weeks to play in the reserves on Saturday. Hopefully he can quickly find his touch and push for senior selection soon. That is all. See you at the footy! Jets Soar Past Zebras in Style

Photos - Chris Mirtschin The Jets seniors celebrated two individual milestones in style on Saturday. In Will Villani's 100th senior game, Darren Sheen booted his 100th goal of the season, much to the delight of the crowd at the hangar. Capping that off with a 119 point thrashing of the Zebras was awesome. The reserves and colts were also on song, winning by 58 and 48 points respectively. What a day! Site UpdatesI have posted my match report for the seniors game, along with scores from reserves and colts games here. I've also updated the ladders and posted a new batch of photos I took from the seniors game. PLEASE NOTE: I did shoot photos of the reserves game but haven't had time to sort and edit them yet. I hope to post these by the weekend. 21st JulySeniors Ins and Outs for Round FifteenThe Jets have made two changes for the game against Forest Hill. In comes Anthony Hickey and Darryn Paul, replacing Mick Aitken (injured) and Dylan Robson-Long (omitted). 20th JulyJets Downed by Eagles
ABOVE: Leigh Odermatt flies for a spectacular pack mark against Ferntree Gully. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Eagles seniors redeemed themselves against the Jets with a 35 point win last Saturday. It was a far different result than that which saw them lose to the Jets by 145 points back in round seven. The reserves were outclassed from start to finish in their match, losing to the Eagles by 70 points. The colts unfortunately let a 37 point lead at the last break turn into a draw at the final siren in their match. The Jets will need to lift to bounce back against the Zebras this coming weekend. 2011 Major DrawOur major draw raffle is on once again and will be drawn on Sunday 25th September. There are 300 tickets available at $50 per ticket. First prize is $5000, second prize is $1000 and third prize is $500. Pop into the clubrooms and buy a number now to be involved. Site UpdatesI have posted my match report for the seniors game, along with scores from reserves and colts games here. I've also updated the ladders and posted a new batch of photos I took from the seniors game. 14th JulySeniors Ins and Outs for Round FourteenFor the big game against Ferntree Gully, the Jets have listed four changes.
Make sure you get along to Ferntree Gully Reserve on Saturday to cheer the Jets on. 13th JulyJets Maul Cats for Three Big Wins
ABOVE: Kieran O'Driscoll on the run ahead of former Jets player, Brett Hartman. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets hosted Silvan for the first time last Saturday and had three great wins. The colts started the day off well with a solid 58 point win. The reserves followed up with a 94 point win, one that sees them move up into third on the ladder. The seniors bounced back from their loss to South Belgrave with a 74 point win. The Jets seniors also move back to third on their ladder. With a couple of big games amongst the top contenders this week, including South Belgrave vs Glen Waverley Hawks and Ferntree Gully vs Heathmont, the ladder is far from settled and the Jets could even make it back on top come 5pm Saturday. They would have to beet the Eagles and the Saints beat the Hawks for that to occur. On behalf of the Jets, I'd like to thank the Silvan boys for hanging around to socialise after the game for quite a while on Saturday night. Whilst I couldn't stay myself, I heard that they made a good impression on those that did. As I've said before, that's one of the best parts of local footy. Cheers. Pyjama Party Coming SoonThe Jets are holding a Pyjama Party at the clubrooms on Saturday 30th July from 7:30pm until midnight. Entry is $10 per person and covers finger food. Ladies get a complimentary champagne on arrival before 9:00 pm. $5 will get you a Kahlua and milk, plus a cookie. A DJ will be playing some tunes and there will be prizes for the best dressed. See Sam Anderson for more information. Site UpdatesI have posted my match report for the seniors game, along with scores from reserves and colts games here. I've also updated the ladders and posted a new batch of photos I took from the seniors game. 7th JulySeniors Ins and Outs for Round ThirteenThe Jets have made three changes for this week's match against Silvan. In comes Dylan Robson-Long for his first senior game with the club, along with Jack Batchelor and David Want. Out are Jaime and Will Villani (personal reasons) and Peter Ferrier (omitted). Make sure you get along to support the Jets this Saturday at H.E. Parker Reserve. Let's hope the seniors can rebound from last week and join the reserves and colts for three big wins. ABOVE: Triple Teamed - Dylan Sverns, Matt Baker and Peter Forsyth do their best to prevent Lukas Appleby from marking. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets traveled to South Belgrave last Saturday and came away with two wins and a loss. The colts got things off to a great start with a convincing 67 point win to keep their finals hopes alive. The reserves finished strongly to record a 19 point win in what was a close game generally. The seniors match saw the scoring flow with the breeze. The Jets had almost leveled the score at half time, only to see the Saints break the game open late in the third quarter to lead by 40 points. Whilst the Jets rebounded a bit in the last quarter, they were unable to reel in the deficit and lost by 37 points. Sportsman's Night a Great SuccessThe Jets Sportsman's Night was held last Saturday night and was a great night by all accounts. The Cougars got within a point during the third quarter before the Jets slammed home nine goals to one in the last quarter to run out winners by 72 points. The reserves had their chances in their match before the home side ran home with a strong last quarter to win by 14 points. The colts fell short by 25 points despite a strong showing in the last quarter. Heathmont Does Indeed Have Talent!
ABOVE: Darren Sheen and Sam Anderson pose with their Under 13 counterparts. Photos - Chris Mirtschin. The Jets had their Heathmont's Got Talent evening last Saturday. From a dim sim eating contest, to Jack Batchelor singing solo, to Manly Ga Ga, to the finale (which shall never be topped, nor spoken about!), this event had the lot. Winners on the night were the Under 13's with their parody of the Music Men song, along with some uncanny resemblances to certain players and personalities from the seniors. Thanks very much to all who attended and performed, and especially to Nathan Parker for organising such a successful event. Site UpdatesI have posted my match report for the seniors game, along with scores from reserves and colts games here. ABOVE: Anthony Hickey clears an opponent with this snap kick on the run. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets seniors and reserves played Nunawading last Saturday and had two important wins. Following a slow start in the first half, the seniors booted eight goals to none in the third quarter, ultimately running out winners by 84 points. That win actually boosted the Jets percentage slightly and keeps them on top for another week. The reserves battled hard through their game and won by 17 points, thus keeping them in fourth and a game clear of the Basin and Eastern Lions on the reserves ladder. As Nunawading don't have a colts side. our colts hosted Park Orchards, a club new to the EFL this year who are looking to introduce seniors next year. With just two points separating them at half time, Park Orchards surged in the third term to open up a 20 point lead. The Jets fought back valiantly in the final quarter be fell short by 13 points. They now sit a game outside of the top five on the ladder and will have to work hard to force their way back up. Reminder - Sportsman's NightThe Jets are holding a Sportsman's Night on Saturday 2nd July from 7:00pm at the Hungarian Community Centre, 760 Boronia Road, Wantirna. Speakers include Matthew Richardson, Tom Hafey, Rodney Hogg and comedian Ray Gilson. Tickets are $50 and entry price includes finger food. Drinks will be sold at bar prices. ABOVE L-R: Robin Kent (Lions), Jamie Rudge (HCC), Rob Parker (HFC), Peter Ewing (Lions) and Phil Randall (Lions) with the new defibrillator unit that will be kept at H.E. Parker Reserve. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Heathmont Lions Club have kindly donated a public access defibrillator unit to the Heathmont Football Club and Heathmont Cricket Club for use at H.E. Parker Reserve. This came about after the Lions club heard of the unfortunate death of a 22 year old Silvan Football Club player Vincent Bonnano during a pre-season practice match. The unit will be housed at H.E. Parker Reserve permanently, aside from when the Jets have away games - they will take it with them on those occasions. Click here to read a Maroondah Leader story on the defibrillator donation. Click here to visit the Heathmont Lions Club website for more information on their activities. The football and cricket clubs thank the Lions very much for their donation. Whilst we hope never to have to use it, it may just save someone in future. EFL 50th Year Honours

During the president's luncheon on Saturday, Rob Sharpe, the CEO of the EFL, was on hand to present recognition awards to both Ary Van Tilburg and Jonathon 'Joffa' Taylor for their work at the Jets. ABOVE TOP: Dylan Sverns takes a strong mark. ABOVE: David Sindrey (left) and Leigh Odermatt (right) are chaired off the ground following their 100th game for the Jets. Photos - Chris Mirtschin The Jets hosted Surrey Park last Saturday and three fantastic wins. The colts were up first and following a very even start to the game, they stormed home in the last quarter to win by 24 points. This was an important win as they now move ahead of Surrey Park to sixth on the ladder, just one game outside of the top five. The reserves led from start to finish to win by 164 points. The seniors did likewise to win by 219 points, thus reclaiming top spot on the ladder. Take note - the seniors ladder has each team in the top five with seven wins and two losses, only percentage separates them all. How's that for an even competition! The three wins were a great way to honour the passing of Rex Ablett. The seniors win was a great result for David Sindrey and Leigh Odermatt who played their 100th game for the Jets too. Footy Show Raffle ResultThe winner of four tickets to the Footy Show is none other than Daniel Lane. Congratulations Laney. Thanks to all who supported the club by purchasing tickets. ABOVE: Sam Anderson soars for a ruck hit out against the Bears. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets traveled to the Basin last Saturday and were defeated in all three games unfortunately. The colts were overrun by 58 points by the Bears, now second on the ladder. Our colts are sitting in seventh on the ladder and are still a good chance to make finals. The reserves were defeated by 41 points in their match and now drop to fifth on the ladder. The seniors match saw the Jets in front by about five goals during the second quarter before the Bears clawed their way back for a 14 point victory. Hopefully the Jets can bounce back against Surrey Park this week. Mid Year Ball - a Great Success
Despite the three losses not being an ideal prelude to a social function, the Jets did enjoy a great social event at the mid year ball, held at Karralyka on Saturday night. Many thanks to Chris Walters for organising the event. Heathmont's Got Talent

Thanks for the photos Jo. The social calendar has been updated too. 30th MayVale Rex Ablett
Above: Rex Ablett - photo kindly supplied by Wendy Garland Heathmont mourns the loss of club stalwart Rex Ablett, who passed away peacefully last night after a hard fought battle against illness. For those of us who had the privilege of having Rex in our lives, it will be a void that will be hard to fill. He was a passionate man in whatever endeavour he pursued, be it work, his love of the theatre or his love of football. Rex became part of Heathmont Football club through his involvement with the Heatherdale Junior Football club which he joined after his sons decided they wanted to play football in the early seventies. He went on to coach many of the club’s junior teams, and was actively involved on their committees, spanning a period of 30 odd years, holding down many roles including that of President. He was also a mentor of many, from players he coached, to coaches he guided, to aspiring committee members. He had the joy of watching some of his young charges raise to the AFL ranks and perform well. One of his latter prized moments was being part of the coaching team that won the 1998 under 18's premiership for Heathmont. Apart from his time at Heatherdale and Heathmont, he was involved with the inaugural Whitefriars team in the amateurs and had a short stint at Caulfield Grammarians. One of Rex’s most powerful qualities was his ability to captivate a crowd with his power of speech, be it to a junior team, a senior team, or an audience at a football club – his specialty was delivering that motivational message before that all important ‘crucial’ game. Many of which will continue to live on in our memories. The club extends its sympathy to Pat and her family, as Rex takes his final bow. He will be sorely missed by all. - Jo Hart-Parker The funeral service for Rex will be held on Friday 3rd June from 10am at the Activate Church, 1/20 Melbourne Street, Ringwood. A wake will be held at the H.E. Parker Reserve clubrooms following the service. 26th MaySeniors Ins and Outs for Round EightOnly one change for the big match against the Basin - Peter Ferrier is out injured, replaced by Sam Anderson. ABOVE: Leigh Odermatt flies high for a spectacular grab against the Eagles. Photos - Chris Mirtschin The Jets hosted the Eagles last Saturday and had two wins from three. The colts contested well in their match against the ladder leaders before being overrun in the last quarter to fall short by 16 points. They are definitely improving from week to week and are strongly tipped to make the finals if they keep showing that improvement. The reserves held a three goal lead at half time, only to have the Eagles claw their way back into the game by the last break. The Jets then put the foot down to run away to a 21 point win in the end. The seniors were out to atone for a 128 point loss to the Eagles in round three last year. They did it in style to win by 145 points, with Sheen booting ten goals, and Odermatt six. What a result! Let's hope they carry that form into this Saturday's game against the Bears. Reminder - Mid Year Ball This Saturday NIghtThe Jets are holding a Mid Year Ball at the Karralyka Centre, Mines Rd, Ringwood East on Saturday 28th May from 7:30 pm. ABOVE: Jono Knudsen breaks clear for a kick against Silvan. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets traveled to Silvan for the first time last Saturday and came away with three great wins. The colts asserted control during the third quarter of their game to run out 31 point winners. The reserves led at every change in their 77 point win. And the seniors made it four wins in a row with a 79 point win. Well done lads! Let's do it again this Saturday against Ferntree Gully. Rex Ablett FundraiserThanks to the many folk who have donated money or bought a raffle ticket to help raise money for Rex. I understand that between the junior and senior parts of the club, over $5,000 has been raised. Rex had to return to hospital last week and we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery. There are more to be added in the coming weeks. 10th MayJets Tame Lions With Three Great Wins!
ABOVE: Battle of the forwards? Mick Aitken and Darren Sheen fly for a mark. Photo - Craig Broadbent. The Jets had a great day at H.E. Parker Reserve last Saturday, recording three big wins over the Eastern Lions. The colts got blew their game apart with eleven goals to three in the second half to run out winners by 64 points. The reserves did similar damage in their game during the second half to post a 72 point win. The seniors finished the day off nicely with a thumping 87 point win too. Mick Aitken returned for his first game in more than a year to boot seven goals whilst Sheen kicked six. The seniors now sit on top of the ladder with a handy 24% gap over Ferntree Gully, also on 16 points. It was a fantastic day for the club, and hopefully not the last time we notch up three wins in a round this year. Go Jets! Ladies LuncheonThanks very much to Anne Parker for organising the ladies luncheon held last Saturday. I understand that the food was great, as was the speech by Olympic gymnast Monette Russo. To the ladies who attended, we hope you had a great time and thank you for supporting the event. Thank YouThanks to those of you who have provided so much positive feedback regarding the new version of the site. I'm pleased that you like it as much as I do. I remind everyone to please let me know if you find any technical issues with it, or if you have any suggestions for the site. You can do that by emailing me here. Whilst I get the occasional contribution such as photos from Craig or Jo, I would love it if someone could help out by writing a match report for the colts and reserves games each week. It doesn't need to be as wordy as mine are for the seniors, and it needn't be the same person who writes it each week. If you can string a few paragraphs together and email a report through from these earlier games, I'd really appreciate it. As much as I'd love to be able to watch all games each weekend and write the reports myself, I really don't have the time to do so on top of the effort I already put in with the photos, senior report and general maintenance. All contributions will be welcomed. - Chris Mirtschin Site UpdatesI have posted my match report for the seniors game, along with scores from reserves and colts games here. I've also updated the ladders and of course posted a new batch of photos I took, along with several from Craig Broadbent. Thanks very much for the photos Craig, including the one above of Aitken and Sheen. For those of you who would like notification of when the site updates are posted, you can follow us on Twitter or alternately email me to ask to go on the mailing list. I only send emails once or twice a week and keep your address private by use of the Bcc field. You can of course request removal from the list at any time too. 5th MaySeniors Ins and Outs for Round FiveOUT: Peter Forsyth (injured), Peter Ferrier (injured), Matt Baker (personal) Be there at H.E. 3rd MayNew Site Launches At LastI've been working on this renovation to the website for some weeks now. Those of you who have seen a sneak preview have voiced your approval which is encouraging. To those that haven't seen it until now, please let me know what you think too. One of the things that has changed a lot since the last overhaul is that the popularity of web browsers other than Microsoft's Internet Explorer is on the rise. Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome have both taken significant market share which means that I have to try and get this looking good and working well in all of them. I hope I have succeeded. PLEASE NOTE: If you should find anything that doesn't look quite right or work the way you would expect, please let me know by emailing me here. Please pass on the details of what you have found wrong and include the name and version of the browser software you are using. Any other feedback is welcome via that email address too. - Chris Mirtschin. Jets Destroy Cougars!
ABOVE: Levi Horton takes a spectacular grab. Photo - Chris Mirtschin The Jets continued their rivalry with Kilsyth in fine style last Saturday with the seniors smashing them to the tune of 103 points. Sheen and Odermatt led the goal kicking with seven and six a piece respectively. The reserves bounced back with a win too. With scores level at the final break, they ran away from Kilsyth in the last quarter to win by 31 points. The colts meanwhile had their chances in a close match but were overpowered in the end and lost by just 16 points. Rex Ablett - Fundraiser on Thursday NightRex is a stalwart of the club and has been in and out of hospital a lot over the past nine months or so. He is now back at home at last but is still having some mobility issues as he continues rehabilitation. The club is running a fundraiser this Thursday night from 7:00pm at the clubrooms. The aim is to raise enough cash to purchase an electronic lift chair to make it easier for Rex to get on his feet. This costs around $2000 - $2500. Any additional funds raised will go towards paying for a gardener to maintain his garden. Be there on Thursday to buy a raffle ticket or make a donation. Your generosity will be appreciated. Site UpdatesAside from the renovation job, I have posted my match report from Saturday's seniors win over Kilsyth. I have posted photos from the game also - please click here to visit the gallery.
