Match Reports: Elimination and Qualifying Finals

SENIORS In the two matches against The Basin this year it was the Jets by 20 points in Round 5, and The Bears by 10 points in Round 17. In both games the away team was the victor, and Matt Decler and Ryan Young featured in the best for the Jets in both games. The last time we played at Central Reserve was in the Semi Final last year when we narrowly beat Templestowe by four points. The Jets named just the one change this week with the return of Dylan Sverns. It always seems to be windy at this ground, and the flags were indicating a stiff southerly breeze, which The Basin had the advantage of in the opening term. The first quarter saw Gary Conyers, Jordan Haynes and Callum Norris all gatheri

Match Reports: Round 18 vs Waverley

SENIORS It was a case of Round 18 déjà vu for the Jets. Similar to Season 2017 we needed to get the job done in the last round to qualify for finals. Back into the senior team this week were Jordan Haynes, Gary Conyers, Ben Irvine and Chris Columbo. Waverley were sitting seventh on the ladder and no doubt keen to finish with a win after coming down from Division 2 at the end of last season. The scoreboard operator’s afternoon started when Ryan Young roved off the pack and put through the first of the day for the Jets. The very strong wind across ground to scoreboard side combined with a wet surface due to a shower just before the game made clean ball handling difficult. The Jets defenders we

Match Reports: Round 17 vs The Basin

SENIORS It was Cystic Fibrosis round and it was great to see the support from the football community and also to watch a very important match for the Seniors to consolidate their position in the final five. The team welcomed back in Al Pettigrew and U17 player Cal Norris but had a late withdrawal with Gary Conyers going out and Al Knudsen coming back in. The opening quarter was played at a fast and furious pace with both team’s defence holding strong. The Jets finally hit the scoreboard with a beautiful running goal by Cal Norris. That started a flurry of goals. Cam Evans and Chris Nayna were getting it out of the centre and the mids were pushing it goalward. The team was making the most of

Match Reports: Round 16 vs Chirnside Park

SENIORS Who knew what the day would have in store for the Jets when the boys turned up to Chirnside Park last Saturday. With two wins on the board for the U19’s and DSquad, it was a crucial match for the Seniors to get them back on the winners list and keep The Basin at bay. There were quite a few outs this week, and the side welcomed Under 19 player Joel Gosbell in for his first Senior match, and welcomed back Chris Nayna after his stint in the Dsquad. Truck and Rob Savory also came into the side. The team had to get a score on the board early to set the tone for the day, and that they did through Knowles who managed to kick a goal through traffic in the opening minutes. Another from Conyer

Match Reports: Round 15 vs Templestowe

SENIORS The Jets ventured to Templestowe to play on a deck that is in similarly good condition to HE Parker. The changes this week saw the return of AMc to the seniors, plus the selection of first gamers Henry Ballard and Jordan Gasparini. Templestowe ran out as a fairly tall team, and it was a couple of their bigger guys who kicked their first quarter goals. The first of the day for the Jets came after a strong mark to Cam, who dished off by hand to Brent, who in turn hit up Fin on the lead, and a goal followed from a tight angle. Boof then crumbed a boundary throw in and passed to to Fin at the top of the square who outmarked his opponent and registered his second goal. Burls and Gaz were
