Much has been happening around the Club since the end of the 2019 Season. As most people are probably aware, the old clubrooms have been demolished and the site cleared in readiness for the construction of our exciting new rooms. At this stage all signs still point to the rooms being ready for the start of the 2020 season.
Behind the scenes the Club is continuing to review its off-field organisation and structure in order to better support the on-field football and netball departments which are also under-going review. The Club is keen to provide additional football coaching staff as well as fitness/conditioning and injury & rehabilitation services, and to this end the Club is in the process of seeking applications and interviewing candidates for the following positions - Assistant Coach, Development Coach, Fitness & Conditioning Coordinator and an Injury and Rehabilitation Manager to thereby round out our Men’s Football Department. The Club is still also on the search for a Senior Women’s Coach for next year. Anyone knowing anybody who might be suitable for any of the above positions can contact Wayne Judge (Director of Football) to discuss.
The Club has also been actively working to re-sign our existing playing group and to bring new recruits to the Club. The Club is pleased to announce that the great majority of last year’s playing list has recommitted for next season, with many of the players in their end-of-year review meeting commenting on what they saw as “an opportunity lost” last season. Amongst the re-signings are first time Best-and-Fairest winner Wade Van Leeuwen, runner-up Jordan Haynes, leading goal-kicker Ayhan Bajramov, exciting forward Fin Brown, emerging mid-field stars Trey Braione and Bailey Stevens, and club stalwarts Tom Rourke, Dylan Sverns, Ryan Young and Rob Savory.
In further news, the Club has been working overtime to recruit and sign new players to add talent and depth to our playing list and is confident that several players will shortly commit to the Jets for Season 2020. One exciting player to have signed with the Club is former Eastern Ranges Captain (2018) Joel Burleigh, who will join older brother Ryan Burleigh at the Hangar next season. Joel joins us from Premier Division team, South Croydon, and he will add class/poise and his silky skills to our already very talented mid-field group. Joel says he is “excited at the prospect of playing alongside his brother” and is looking forward to being part of the Jets young and upcoming playing group. Senior Coach Kyle Emley commented that “Joel is a very talented player who will provide a further dimension to the team. He will be a terrific addition to our mid-field group and will complement the likes of Jordan Haynes and Trey Briaone. He also has the ability to go forward and be a very dangerous goal-kicking small forward”.
Another playing to be joining the Jets ranks next season is Caleb Quirk. Like Joel, Caleb is a former Eastern Ranges player who last year played with Division 1 side Upper Ferntree Gully. Caleb was drawn to the Club by what he believes is “the opportunity to be part of a young and talented playing group”. According to Senior Coach Kyle Emley “Caleb is a versatile player who will be able to play at both ends of the ground for us, and we are excited to have him join the Jets for next year”.
The Club is also still in negotiations with a number of other potential recruits so stay tuned for further exciting announcements about player signings and recruitment news. Furthermore, the Club is also keen to add depth to our playing list for next season, so if anyone has any leads on potential players please provide any contact details to Wayne Judge 0400 951 867, or Justin O’Dwyer 0412 930 963, so that we can follow up on any possibilities.
