Heathmont FNC Senior Coaching Appointment
The Heathmont Jets FNC is thrilled to announce the appointment of Nick Rutley as our Senior Football Coach, following an extensive process that attracted a number of high quality candidates for the position.
Nick comes to the Jets with a very impressive coaching CV, including development coaching roles at both Casey Scorpions and Box Hill Hawks in 2014 and 2015 respectively. In 2016, Nick served as the midfield coach at the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup, before moving on to the Wandin Football Club as Head Coach in 2017-18. In his second year, Nick led Wandin to the 2018 Premiership in the Premier Division of the then Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League (now AFL Outer East).
In 2018, Nick was also appointed as an assistant coach of Carlton's AFL Women's side, and stood in for head coach Damien Keeping when Keeping was temporarily forced to stand aside due to illness.
In 2019, Nick was appointed the coach of the inaugural AFL Outer East interleague side, and he was also the Head Coach of the Dandenong Stingrays Under 18 Girls Program. Also in 2019, Nick was recruited as an assistant coach of the North Melbourne AFLW team for the 2019/2020 AFLW season, although COVID and the imposition of a lower football department salary cap within the AFL unfortunately resulted in Nick’s role at the Kangaroos being discontinued.
Nick describes himself as “a passionate and enthusiastic coach who enjoys building rapport and relationships with the athletes and other coaches I work with. My coaching experience caters for both males and females, and senior and younger players”.
Club President, Rob Parker, says that the club had sought a “coach with Senior experience who had tasted success and knew what it took to bring about the further development and improvement of young players, but at the same time, would be able to motivate our loyal band of more experienced players to say the course and enjoy the rewards to come”.
“Nick is a highly motivated and enthusiastic coach who has a wealth of experience and knowledge that will be of tremendous benefit to our whole playing group, young and older, and as a Club we are rapt to have secured his services”.
Director of Football Wayne Judge indicated that Nick sought, and has been offered a three-year contract with the Club, a decision that “reflects both the Club’s confidence that we have secured a coach who can lead the Club to sustained success over the coming years, and Nick’s strong belief and commitment that he is the right person to help the Club achieve its desired future”.
A 'meet the coach' meeting (via Zoom) for the playing group will be held shortly with all 2019/20 senior and under 19 players strongly encouraged to attend. “It would be great to see all players in attendance to welcome our new coach and to hear him outline his vision for our club” says president Rob Parker.
The Heathmont Jets FNC is genuinely excited to have Nick join our Club and we extend a very warm welcome to both Nick, his wife Brooke and their four children – Bailey, Kiah, Ellie and Tayte.
