Colts Bow Out of Finals
The Glen Waverley Hawks rebounded from their Round 18 loss against the Jets to score a 39 point win, eliminating the colts from the finals. The Jets were well in contention at the final break, trailing by just four points, before the Hawks doubled their own score in the last quarter (7.5 became 14.10) whilst holding the Jets to just 2.0 for the term.
I congratulate coach Ian Jones and the lads for making it as far as they did. We look forward to seeing these players move on to senior ranks in the coming years. Well done.

Jets Seniors Bow Out in a Thriller, Reserves and Colts are Finals Bound
The Jets hosted Glen Waverley Hawks on Saturday. The colts got the day off to a good start with a 24 point win. The reserves followed up with a 10 point win to reclaim top spot on the ladder and earn a week off in the first week of the finals.
The seniors led for nearly all of their match before being overrun in the last 10 minutes. It was a tough, emotion charged game. They gave it all and can hold their heads high in that regard. Unfortunately, that is it for season 2010 senior action for the Jets.
Thanks Levi Horton & Chris Walters!

Above left - Levi Horton at the end of his last game as captain. Above right - Chris Walters is chaired off following his 200th and final game for the Jets.
Levi Horton has played his last game as captain for the Jets following six years at the helm. The highlight of his tenure would have to be the 2008 premiership. He will continue to play on in 2011, under a new captain though.
Chris Walters played his 200th and final game for the club on Saturday too. He is a dual premiership player and life member. Congratulations on a wonderful playing career at the Jets.
Vale Kate Ferrier and Albert Taylor
Kate Ferrier, sister to Peter Ferrier, passed away last week. The club extends its deepest sympathies to the Ferrier family at this time of sadness.
Albert Taylor, grandfather to Chris Walters also passed away last week. The club extends its deepest sympathies to the Chris's family also.
Jets Juniors Grand Final Success!

Above - The under 11's with their medals and premiership cup.
The Jets Juniors won two of their four Grand Finals on Sunday. Scores are as follows:
- Under 11's - Heathmont 4.5 29 defeated Scoresby 0.7 7
- Under 12's - Heathmont Blue 3.2 20 defeated Glen Waverley Rovers 2.4 16
- Under 13's - Glen Waverley Rovers 5.18 48 defeated Heathmont 3.6 24
- Under 14's - East Ringwood 9.4 58 defeated Heathmont Blue 6.1 37
All the boys deserve credit for actually making the grand final in the first place. To the under 11's and 12's, congratulations on a superb victory.
More Jets Finals Action
The colts will be playing the Glen Waverley Hawks for the second week in row, this time in an elimination final at East Burwood Reserve at 9:40 am on Sunday 22nd August.
Get along and support them if you can.
The reserves have a week off. They will play the winner of this weekend's Ferntree Gully vs Forest Hill game on Saturday 28th August at Walker Park in Mitcham. I'll have more details on that next week.

Zebras Too Strong for Jets
The Jets traveled to Forest Hill last Saturday and came away with three losses. The colts were totally outclassed in their 188 point loss. The reserves were still in touch at the last break before an eight goal to one final term saw them fall short by 69 points.
The seniors match was a far closer affair with the lead swapping numerous times. The Zebras came home with a very strong final 20 minutes of play to win by 28 points.
The seniors are now officially out of finals contention. The reserves have dropped to second place on their ladder, whilst the colts remain in fifth on theirs.
Juniors Finals This Weekend
Three junior teams have won through to the next round of the finals. The Under 13B side will move on also courtesy of a double chance, despite their loss to Glen Waverley Rovers last Sunday. This Sunday 8th August you can catch the following teams in action:
- 10:55 AM - Under 11B - Forest Hill vs Heathmont @ Pinks Reserve
- 12:30 PM - Under 13B - Heathmont vs Chirnside Park @ Pinks Reserve
Next Sunday 15th August, you can head out to Scoresby to watch at least two Jets teams in Grand Finals:
- 10:55 AM Under 12B - Heathmont Blue vs Undecided @ Scoresby Recreation Reserve
- 12:30 PM Under 14B - Heathmont Blue vs Undecided @ Scoresby Recreation Reserve
What a great effort by these teams so far. Hopefully the Under 11's and 13's can also win this weekend to snag a grand final spot.
Get along and show your support if possible. Go Jets!

Seniors and Colts Struggle, Reserves Juggernaut Keeps on Rolling
The seniors and reserves hosted Templestowe last Saturday with mixed results. The seniors were outclassed by the Dockers (still second on the ladder) to the tune of 99 points. The reserves however, kept their winning streak going with a 33 point victory to retain top spot. The colts hosted Ferntree Gully and fell well short by 74 points.
Whilst mathematically possible for the seniors to make the top five, it is highly unlikely given the run home with matches against Forest Hill, the Basin and Glen Waverley Hawks.
Juniors Finals Action Continues
Only one of the juniors teams who played finals last Sunday lost, all others, including the under 14's who won the right to a week off, will be in action again this Sunday as per the following details:
- 10:55 am - Under 11B - The Basin vs Heathmont @ East Ringwood Reserve
- 2:30 pm - Under 16C - The Basin vs Heathmont @ Heights Reserve
- 10:55 am - Under 12B - Glen Waverley Rovers vs Heathmont Blue @ Scoresby Recreation Reserve
- 12:30 pm - Under 14B - Heathmont Blue vs East Ringwood @ Scoresby Recreation Reserve
- 12:30 pm - Under 13B - Glen Waverley Rovers vs Heathmont @ Pinks Reserve
There was a strong turn out by the senior playing group last Sunday, something that was much appreciated by the boys from the juniors. Thanks very much to those that attended. Please keep it up again this weekend and show your support to the future of our club, the juniors.
Good luck boys, I'm sure you'll do the Jets proud!

Vale Colin Doak and Jack Handley
Colin Doak passed away on Saturday night from diabetes and other illnesses.
He was a junior coach with the club during the late 70's and 80's and the U18's 1980 Premiership Coach. He was an active club man during that time and supportive past player when he could make it down.
Jack Handley passed away on Friday.
He was a past president of the club in the 80's and his boys all played with Heathmont over the years. His son Wayne was named in the back line in the team of the 50 years.
The club extends it's condolences to Colin's and Jack's families and friends at this sad time.

Jets Juniors Make Finals in all Grades - Awesome!
The home and away season has finished for juniors footy and the finals commence this coming weekend. Our juniors have qualified in all age groups having finished in the following positions on the ladder:
- Under 16C - 4th
- Under 15B - 5th
- Under 14B - 1st (Heathmont Blue)
- Under 14C - 11th (Heathmont Gold)
- Under 13B - 3rd
- Under 12B - 2nd (Heathmont Blue)
- Under 12C - 14th (Heathmont Gold)
- Under 11B - 4th
The only sides not to make finals are the under 14's and under 12's Gold sides which are the second sides in each age group.
What an outstanding effort to field so many sides in finals! Get along and support the boys if you can at the following games this Sunday:
- 2:30 PM - Under 16C - Heathmont vs Glen Waverley Rovers @ Batterham Reserve
- 2:30 PM - Under 15B - Glen Waverley Rovers vs Heathmont @ Quambee Reserve
- 12:30 PM - Under 13B - Donvale vs Heathmont @ East Ringwood Reserve
- 10:55 AM - Under 12B - Heathmont Blue vs Waverley Blues White @ Lewis Park
- 10:55 AM Under 11B - Heathmont vs Ferntree Gully Eagles @ Quambee Reserve

Jets Keep Finals Dream Alive
The seniors kept their finals hopes alive with a solid 35 point victory over Canterbury on Saturday. At the same time, they also gave club legend and president Wally Galbraith a 200th game to remember.
The reserves juggernaut continues to roll on with another great win, this time by 97 points. Dean Thomas booted seven goals for the Jets.
The colts meanwhile suffered from a slow start with just two goals to half time. Despite picking up the pace a bit in the second half, the damage had been done and the Basin ran out easy 57 point winners.

Jets Win All Three Over Lions
The Jets traveled to Fairpark Reserve to take on the Eastern Lions last Saturday and came away with wins to all three teams. The colts goth things off to a good start with their 13 point victory. The reserves cruised home in their 85 point win to retain top spot on the ladder. And the seniors fought back from a few goals down to win by 22 points in a very tough game. The seniors have trimmed the margin back to being 10 points and percentage out of the top five. Whilst still a tough proposition to make finals, they are just that bit closer following that strong win.
Go Jets!

Jets Seniors Struggle Against Saints, Ressies and Colts Win
The Jets hosted South Belgrave last Saturday. The colts got back on the winners list with a stellar last quarter to overrun the visitors by 15 points. The reserves continued their great form and took top spot on the ladder with their 20 point win.
The seniors struggled in the first quarter, bounced back in the next, before falling away in the second half and falling short by 44 points. They're now 14 points adrift from the top five, making finals action very hard (but not impossible) to achieve for season 2010. Hopefully they can bounce back against the Lions this Saturday.

Jets Return to Form Against Nunawading

Above: Nick Seller (left) and Kieran O'Driscoll (right) take centre stage as the boys belt out the club song following their big win over the Lions. Both players had a big impact on debut for their first senior game.
The Jets seniors returned to form against Nunawading last Saturday. In their most consistent game for the season, a full four quarter effort saw them trounce the home side by 124 points, with eleven different goal kickers contributing to the big score.
The reserves held on following a determined fight back by the Lions in the third quarter to win by 11 points. The colts were unfortunately outclassed by Forest Hill when they hosted them earlier in the day, falling well short by 150 points.

Reserves Triumph Over Bears, Seniors and Colts Struggle
The Jets hosted the Basin last Saturday and managed just one win for the day, with the reserves holding out against their opponents during the last term to win by 31 points. This win has the Jets sitting third on the reserves ladder. There is only percentage separating first through fourth. How about that for an even competition amongst the upper teams?
Earlier in the day, the colts battled hard to hit the front in the third quarter but were unable to finish it off from there in their 80 point loss.
The seniors struggled to make any real impact in their game against the Bears, kicking just four goals for the day and losing by 66 points. They certainly have their work cut out for them to make the finals this year.
Past Players and Officials Luncheon

The luncheon was held on Saturday and was a great success. Thanks to Dick Shrimpton and Ray Revell for doing the organising, and Jo Hart-Parker for assisting on the day. A good day was had by all and it was good to see some 'new' old faces.

Jets Lose to Zebras by a Point in HE Parker Thriller
The Jets hosted Forest Hill last Saturday, with mixed results. The colts were outclassed to the tune of 70 points. The reserves helped Matt Welch celebrate his 150th game in style with a nice 35 point win.
The seniors game was quite even until the Zebras took control in the third term. The Jets fought back well in the last quarter but fell agonizingly short by just one point!
Important Reminder
There are no matches for the Jets in seniors, reserves or colts this coming Saturday as we have a bye. That will give you more time to prepare for the Mexican Fiesta night to be held at the club rooms from 7pm!
Milestones Reached for Jono Knudsen and Matt Welch

Jets Grounded by High Flying Hawks
The Jets traveled to play ladder leaders Glen Waverley Hawks last Saturday and came away with three losses. The colts fell short by 32 points despite a strong fight back in the third quarter to get back into the match. The reserves were in front late in their game before the Hawks goaled to pinch the match by four points. The seniors match was a tale of two halves. Completely dominated in the first half, the Jets were very competitive in the second half but still fell well short of the mark in their 122 point loss.
Reminder - Light Up Heathmont Raffle Tickets Now Available
A major fundraiser is underway to get additional training lights for the ground. Raffle tickets are now available for $5 each. Major prize is $1500 worth of goods and services from Heathmont traders.
