Welcome to Season 2010
Welcome back for another year on board with the Jets. Hopefully this one will be better than last and will see the Jets contesting finals for another crack at 3rd Division.
If you have any news from around the club to share on the site, please email me with the details and I'll consider it for posting.
Training Resumes
Training officially resumes this Wednesday 20th January at Great Ryrie Primary School. It will run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday until the season commences. Mondays and Wednesdays will be at GRPS, Fridays will be advised by coach Steve Buckle.
Silvan Denied Entry to EFL
AFL Victoria have rescinded a decision to allow Silvan to join the EFL. This means that the Jets will have two byes this season in 4th Division. Click here for full details on the decision on the EFL web site.
2010 Fixture Released
The revised fixture including the two byes is available in Excel format here. This is for seniors/reserves only. As usual, the EFL will release a colts fixture closer to the start of the season once clubs have finalised their playing lists and can assure enough players to field a side.
Trainers Required
The Jets are still seeking qualified trainers to assist during the 2010 season. If you are a qualified trainer looking to gain extra experience (and some spare cash!) please contact the club here for further information.
AGM and Committee News
The AGM was held back on November 18th and saw some new faces join the committee. Jo Hart-Parker remains on as president for another year. Her page on the site has been updated with the address she gave at the AGM. Click here to read it.
Simon Kawanishi, Brent Furniss, Will Devenyns, Dave Sindrey, Sam Anderson & Martin Sverns have all come on board to assist. Full details of the new committee can be found on the Contact Us page.
For those of you who may wish to volunteer in any capacity to help out around the club, please let the committee know. You don't have to be on the committee to contribute. The more help we have, the better the club will be.
New Life Members Announced
The AGM also saw two new life memberships awarded to Athol Warman and Daniel Raftis. These awards will be officially presented at our presentation night later this year.
Athol Warman has followed his son's playing careers since they began their junior football at Heathmont Football Club in the 90's. He has been an integral part of the senior committee for more than 10 years whilst helping out in the juniors as well, serving in nearly every general role and many key roles over that same period – where there was a requirement he put up his hand no questions asked.
He has been the club's EFL delegate for many years. He has been instrumental in defining what is required on game day and we now have a detailed guide for people to follow. His knowledge of what is required by the EFL is immeasurable and invaluable to new and old committee people alike.
He has been tireless in his efforts behind the bar, not only on Saturdays, but also on Sundays and Wednesdays when the Vets were playing here over the last 13 years, to helping out at private functions and our own club functions.
His ability to source the necessary club merchandise at the right price has been a very successful cost cutting exercise, and then there are his team manager duties which are second to none. All these activities at times go unnoticed by many.
Thanks Athol - your Life Membership of the Heathmont Football Club is well deserved.
Daniel Raftis has been at this club his entire life, many have watched him grow up here. He has played all his junior and senior football for the Heathmont Football Club, amounting to over 130 games.
He took on the role of Treasurer when he just started studying Accounting at University and held it for three years (proving that you don't have to be 'old' to take on a key committee position).
He has volunteered as runner for many of the sides during this time and has been a premiership runner on two occasions, with U18's and Seniors.
For the last two years he has been the assistant coach of our reserves side. He has also been that familiar face behind the bar, not only on game day after his reserves match commitments have finished but also at the end of the day after the seniors and at various functions over the years.
On game day, apart from playing, running, and serving behind the bar, he has qualified as a trainer and helped out when his 'hamstrings' weren't causing him too much grief.
He is also very familiar with Team Manager duties and what is needed on game day. Again a person that goes unnoticed by many, he just does what needs to be done and gives assistance where he can.
The club has great pleasure in recognising Daniel Raftis with Life Membership, the youngest person to be recognised for this honour in the club's history.

Shopping Tour a Great Success
The second Heathmont Honeys Shopping Tour was held on Sunday 18th and went exceptionally well.
Despite some late withdrawals, the ladies managed to spend over $9,100 in a variety of outlets, and at the same time generate enough of a commission to purchase a scoop stretcher for next season (worth over $750) with a bit extra to spare.
Thank you to all those who attended and made it such a successful day.
Special thanks got to Shelley Moredock from Your Very Best, Rachie & Cassie for setting a fine example as junior Honeys, and of course Wendy Garland for organising the event again.

Chandler Medal Night
The EFL's Chandler Medal Night was held last Friday. Jono Knudsen, Duncan Jones and Jayden Himmerman polled the most votes for the Jets seniors, reserves & colts respectively, although not enough to add to the trophy cabinet. For a full list of votes for division three, click here to download them from the EFL website.
One winner on the night was our lead trainer, Kelly Sverns, who picked up the Club Warehouse Trainer of the Year Award.
Congratulations Kelly on your very well deserved award! Your commitment to the player's injury treatment and pre-game preparation in recent seasons has been outstanding.

Chris Walters - Life Membership Award Presented
Chris was awarded life membership at last year's AGM. Normally this would be presented on Presentation Night, but due to other commitments, Rex Ablett and Jo Hart-Parker presented it to Chris at the clubrooms recently.
Chris began his football at the Heatherdale Junior Football club and was a member of Heathmont’s U18’s 1998 premiership side. He was also a premiership player for Heathmont in our 2004 and 2008 wins.
Additionally, he has taken on junior coaching responsibilities for three seasons.
Congratulations Chris on a well deserved life membership award.
