Jets Bounce Back With Victory Over Lions

Jets celebrate their round 11 win over Nunawading

Above: Sam Anderson, Jake Sherriff, Nathan Parker and Chris Barry, surrounded by team mates as the Jets sing the club song after the match.

The seniors rebounded from last week's demoralising loss to the Pioneers with a gutsy seven point win over the Nunawading Lions. With the lead changing several times in the last quarter, it was very pleasing to see the Jets hold strong for the win.

The reserves had a close match until being overrun in the last quarter and lost by 38 points. The colts were also in with a chance in their match against Boronia before losing by 22 points.

Heathmont Honeys Pamper Night

Well the 2nd Annual Heathmont Honeys Pamper Night was held on June 21st and was a tremendous success with over 40 women attending. Never have the footy rooms looked or smelled so good!

Shelley and Jeff from Your Very Best and their merry band of masseuses performed over 45 massages including Chinese Tuina, seated back and Indian Head massages. Just on 18 sets of fingernails & toenails were painted and Shelley gave out invaluable tips with makeup.

The colour therapists, Lucy and Maria did their magic and I think blew most women away with their intuitive readings. I know they did with me! The Noblehouse jewellery was also a success with Desma's beautiful handcrafted pieces.

From all accounts everyone was relaxed and enjoyed themselves. These nights couldn't happen without the help of a few people so I would like to thank Kelly for all her help setting up and supplying nibbles, Robby for doing a great job behind the bar, Cassie for a fantastic job selling raffle tickets, Jo for running out for more supplies, and of course our wonderful sponsors Shelley and Jeff.

40 Years of Foresight

Long before AusKick, which evolved out of the VicKick program, Heatherdale Junior Football Club was providing junior intraclub matches every Saturday morning.

The club had an overflow of junior players and not enough teams in local competitions.

That Heatherdale decided to stage its own games at Heatherdale Reserve underlined the forward-thinking approach of the club, according to former stalwart Rex Ablett.

Click here to read the rest of this interesting article on the history between the Heatherdale and Heathmont football clubs, written by Chris Vernuccio for Leader News.

This Weekend

Don't forget to get along to Walker Park, Maroondah Highway, Nunawading (Melways ref 48 H9) this Saturday to catch the Jets playing against Mitcham.

Then later that night, get back to clubrooms for a Night at the Races - see the social calendar page for full details.

Tonight's Updates

I have updated the scores and ladders for round 11, and posted my match report for the seniors game.

23rd June

Pioneers Too Strong for Jets

The seniors and reserves travelled to Springfield Park lst Saturday to play against Whitehorse Pioneers. It was a dark day indeed, with the seniors losing by 163 points (biggest loss I can recall in recent years) and the reserves losing by 92 points.

A couple of positives from the game were the debut of Jake Sherriff at senior level, and the fact that no ambulances were needed this week.

Congratulations - Rade Djuric - 50 Senior Games

Rade Djuric

Rade "SLG" Djuric played his 50th senior game for the Jets on Saturday. He's come a long way since his debut in the reserves against Templestowe in 2005, and was part of the 2008 premiership side. Congratulations Rade.

Tonight's Updates

I have updated the scores and ladders for round 10, and posted my match report for the seniors game.

16th June

Mustangs Triumph Over Jets

The Jets hosted ladder leaders Mooroolbark on Saturday and were defeated in all three games. The colts had a close game before some inaccuracy in front of goals in the third term, and fell short by 21 points. The reserves had a shocker, soundly beaten by 95 points.

The seniors did remarkably well for much of the game before a couple of serious injuries and a last quarter fade out saw them lose by 36 points. Not bad given some of the demolitions the Mustangs have handed out so far this year.

Hopefully the boys can take the good from this game into their encounter with Whitehorse Pioneers next Saturday. Make sure you get along to Springfield Park, cnr of Springfield and Dorking Rds, Box Hill North to cheer them on.

** NOTE ** The colts have a bye this Saturday, only the reserves and seniors will be playing.

Matthew Baker - 100 Games for the Jets

Congratulations to Matthew Baker, a dual premiership player who played his 100th match for the Jets on Saturday.

Madam President

A story about our club president Jo Hart-Parker appeared on the AFL web site recently as part of their women in football week. Click here to read the article.

Tonight's Updates

I have updated the scores and ladders for round 9, and posted my match report for the seniors game. I have also posted details about this Sunday's Heathmont Honeys Pamper Night on the Social Calendar page.

3rd June

Saints Smash Jets in Disappointing Day Out.

The Jets travelled to Quambee Reserve to play North Ringwood for the first time in 24 years. Unfortunately, it was a day to forget for the Jets with three major losses.

The colts struggled from the start to finish against the ladder leading Saints and fell short by 73 points. After an even first quarter, the Saints reserves pulled away to win by 67 points. The seniors held on pretty well in the first half before the Saints slammed home ten unanswered goals in the third quarter to run away 86 point winners.

Duncan Jones Interview Posted

Colts coach and seniors ruck Duncan Jones was interviewed last week. Click here to read about the how the colts are progressing, plus Duncan's thoughts on coaching and his role in the senior side.

Coming soon... an interview with senior coach Gareth Woodcock.

Reminder

There are no EFL matches this coming Saturday due to the long weekend. The Jets next match is against Mooroolbark on June 13th.

Tonight's Updates

I have updated the ladders and match scores for the completion of round eight. I have also posted my seniors match report.

26th May

Jets Fall to Upper Gully

The Jets hosted Upper Ferntree Gully on Saturday and fell short in all three matches. The colts had a shocker kicking just two goals for the game and losing by 102 points. The reserves were well and truly in it, trailing by just three points at the last break, before an eight goal blitz by the Gully boys sealed a 51 point victory to the visitors. The seniors game was very even for the first half before inaccuracy in front of goal by the Jets opened up the game and the Gully never looked back in their 58 point win. Lets hope they can all get back on track and record wins over North Ringwood this week.

Heathmont Honeys Luncheon - Thank You

The Heathmont Honeys Ladies Lunch was held on Saturday May 9th and was a great success once again, with over 50 women in attendance. This success wouldn't have been possible without the help of many people so I would like to especially thank Kelly, Cassie, Rachael, Chris Mirtschin, Tyler, Daz, Aron, Stuart & Stacey. I would also like to thank Marg Bail for her lovely donation of gifts for the guests and Heathmont Flowers for donating the flowers on the tables.

It was great to see representatives from various community businesses, Natalie from Maroondah City Council, Pauline and Cheryl from Mike Symons office, Jenny Bakken from Barry Plant, Heidi Victoria MLA and Shelley from Your Very Best, not to mention the three ladies from Warrandyte Football Club, all enjoying the day with all the female supporters of the club.

A good time was had by all, especially a certain table who I believe were the first to arrive and the last to leave and who also amassed a huge number of the raffle prizes!

Hawks Down Jets in Round 6 Action

The Jets travelled to Boronia on Saturday and had a tough day at the office so to speak. The colts were up first and struggled in their 38 point loss. The reserves were held goalless in the first half, managed five in the second half and fell well short by 78 points. The seniors had a very tense struggle and drew within 3 points 15 minutes into the last quarter, before the home side slammed home 5 unanswered goals to win by 33 points.

The Jets host Upper Ferntree Gully this Saturday and surely can't be far off another win. With the weather forecast suggesting fine and 21 C, make sure you come down to HE Parker reserve and support them.

80's Night - a Great Success

The 80's night social function was held on Saturday night and was a great success.

Special thanks go to Daniel Lane for organising the event. Daniel had the assistance of Nat, Stace and Alli setting up the rooms. Travis Wall arranged strobe lights, disco balls and speakers, and DJ was of course Leigh Odermatt. Nathan, Brent, Ando, Alli, Daz Paul, Raffo, and Sedgie helped out during the event too.

Thank you everyone for running a great event.

If anyone has any photos to contribute for a gallery on this site, please let me know. I prefer to receive them uncompressed and burnt to a CD or DVD, but can receive smaller numbers by email. I will put together a gallery in the near future. You can email me here for more details if you have something to contribute.

Two Out of Three Ain't Bad!

The Jets hosted Mitcham last Saturday in very windy conditions. The colts got their first win for the season to the tune of 41 points.
